Central Rivers AEA staff, you may have seen recent headlines about isolated measles cases in Iowa. The overall risk related to measles remains low, but we wanted to share a summary of current public health guidance on the topic to help summarize what measles exposure protocols may involve.
- Public health officials may issue specific instructions for anyone identified as having been exposed to measles. If that occurs, all AEA staff would be expected to follow the guidance provided by public health officials.
- Current public health protocols generally require staff who are vaccinated to provide proof of vaccination before returning to work. Staff who are unvaccinated, or unable to provide documentation, may be asked to quarantine for a period of up to 21 days, depending on the exposure assessment.
It’s important for our staff to know that we do not anticipate a widespread impact on our organization due to measles. We are proactively sharing this information to ensure AEA staff, especially those working in schools and with medically fragile children, have access to information about measles. We will continue to share new information in the event that it’s warranted.
